The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald - 1074 Words

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 American novel entitled The Great Gatsby is an outstanding novel that follows the summer of 1922 story of a cast of characters who live in the prosperous Long Island. Directed by Baz Luhrmann, the 2013 film adaption of The Great Gatsby is a traditional, yet slightly radical translation of the novel. The film keeps the majority of the novel’s aspects, but some changes needed to be made in order for the film to be more appropriate for the modern audience. Some of the changes include the music score, and Jay Gatsby’s ending, and the character Nick Carraway’s situation. Along with the differences, there are still major scenes that are almost literally theme same as the novel such as the throwing of the shirts scene and the eyes of Dr. TJ Eckleburg. It is the combination of the two aspects that develop and enhance the film and novel relationship. The first difference between the novel and the film is the music score. Though the novel does not have a musical aspect, the setting is in the 1920s which was dominated by artists such as Louis Armstrong, Jimmie Rodgers, Charley Patton, and Paul Whiteman. The 2013 film version includes more contemporary artists such as Lana Del Rey, JayZ, Fergie, Will.i.Am, Beyonce, and Florence + The Machine. Many people find this difference to be a major problem , but logically, Baz Luhrmann makes an effective decision.
